Library of Congress Subject Headings for the Pacific Islands

by Nancy Sack and Gwen Sinclair

For the first time, the authorized Library of Congress subject headings that are uniquely relevant to the islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia (excluding Hawai'i and New Zealand) have been compiled for easy reference. The first edition is current to October 2005; updates will be published each year in the fall. The subdivisions authorized for use under ethnic groups, languages, and places, the three most common types of headings in the list, are appended. The volume is issued in loose-leaf format for ease of updating. 144 pages.

The publication is available for purchase from HLA for US $20 + $5 shipping.

HLA Logo

What do Motorola, Samsung, Dataware, Profit Systems Inc., Oxford Business Schools, ABC Alliance, and ASAP Sports MGM / United Artists Pictures (Los Angeles) and Turner Entertainment (New York) and hundreds of other top firms have in common with HLA?

HLA announces a logo designed by top graphics firm. The logo was designed by the same firm that conceptualized and developed logos for Ted Turner, and a lot of firms in Hollywood. The logo reflects Hawaii as well as the association. The board felt it was a needed change! It's kind of exciting and fresh. The board announced further plans for t-shirts and other items depicting the logo. Stay tuned!!
