Please join your fellow HLA members at this year’s spring meeting at the Pacific Aviation Museum. Our keynote speaker this year will be Burl Burlingame, who will speak on “Early Aviation in Hawaii.” He will be speaking generally about early aviation with a focus on the “Geiger Detachment,” the first military planes in Hawaii.
Burl Burlingame is a journalist and historian who also designs museum exhibits for historical sites. He writes for the Honolulu Star Bulletin and his book “Advance Force—Pearl Harbor” was published by the Naval Institute Press.
Pacific Aviation Museum on Pearl Harbor’s Ford Island is one of our country’s leading aviation museums, and the only one dedicated to the defense of freedom in the Pacific. Visitors will see actual aircraft from World War II plus educational interpretations of the Pearl Harbor attack, the Doolittle Raid on Japan, and the Battles of Midway and Guadalcanal. HLA members will also be visiting the Lt. Ted Shealy Restoration Shop to see aircraft being restored and view the F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Eagle, Bell helicopters, and other vintage aircraft.
For more information about the venue and driving directions, please visit http://www.pacificaviationmuseum.org/
Participants will NOT need to stop at Arizona Memorial Place to purchase tickets. Proceed instead to the Admiral Clarey Bridge and causeway to access Ford Island. Please email Amy Nogami, Amy.Nogami@us.army.mil, by noon, 4 May 2009, with the name of the vehicle driver, driver’s license number, color/make/model/type of vehicle and license number. This information will be provided to gate personnel to allow access to the base.
